Annual Physical

Wednesday, October 7th, KCOM will be doing our annual student physicals. Student doctors will perform the exams supervised by a licensed physician. This physical includes a basic eye exam, hearing test, check of vital signs, height measurement, and a discreet weight check.

Chapel Days

Chapel is on Friday mornings from 11:00 a.m. till 11:45 a.m. All parents are welcome. Please join us if you’re able to!

No school Columbus Day

On Monday, October 12, Columbus Day, there will be no school for the students. The teachers will have an in-service that day. We will resume school on Tuesday, however. Have a good day off!

Picture Day

Picture day is coming! Tuesday, October 6th. Make sure to mark your calendars. Bring your smile and look your best!! Payment is due at the camera.

Box Tops

Stop! Don’t throw them away! Nooooo!!!

Don’t forget! We are collecting Box Tops! Check your cardboard containers for the “Box Tops for Education” logo. Cut them out and send them with your child to earn money for our school!

Labor Day

Reminder: Monday, September 7^th, is Labor Day. No school !!!!

Special Day

Next Friday, September 11, will be a special day here at school. We will have casual dress day. All students and teachers may wear jeans and t-shirts if they desire. We will also have a special chapel, pizza lunch, and movies in the afternoon. The lunch will be pizza, chips, soda, and a dessert for $2.75. Please send your student’s money on Friday morning.

Box Tops

Dear Parents,

We want to use good health practices and prevent the spreading of germs as much as possible. One way we can do this is by using water bottles rather than drinking after one another at the water fountain. If everyone would bring a water bottle filled with water this would help. The water bottle can either be a disposable one or one your child can take home and wash each day. In the home, the basic rule is to wash hands before preparing food and after handling uncooked meat and poultry, before eating, after changing diapers, after coughing, sneezing, or blowing one's nose into a tissue, and after using the bathroom. Simple things like these can make a difference in all our lives. Let’s work together to stay healthy this year.

How Much Sleep Do You Need?

The sleep requirements for each person depend on many factors, including age. In general

· Infants require about 16 hours a day

· Children need 10-12 hours

· Teenagers need about 9 hours

However, experts say that if you feel drowsy during the day you haven't had enough sleep.

Too little sleep may cause

· Memory problems

· Impairment of learning

· A weakening of your immune system, increasing your chance of becoming sick

P.E./Dance

K-2 P.E. and Beginning Ballet will be the last hour of the day on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

This school year K-2 P.E. students should come to school dressed in appropriate t-shirts, shorts or sweatpants, and tennis shoes on these days. We will not change for P.E. classes.

Ballet girls will need to bring their dance clothes and shoes to change into for dance. Talk to Mrs. Bedford about what these girls need for clothing. Each girl enrolled in beginning ballet will need to have a booster car seat that remains at the school to be used when transporting her to dance.

P.E. for 3^rd-6^th will be Monday & Wednesday.

P.E. for 7^th -12^th will be Tuesday & Thursday.

Students in these grades do need to bring clothes to change into.

Lunchtime Info

We have a selection of items available for students to purchase at the Lunchtime Country Store. All purchases need to be cash up front. Please send money with your children if you wish for them to eat food from the store.

Hot water is available at lunch if students bring ramen noodle soup or other items that may need hot water.

Elementary lunchtime will be at 11:50-12:10, followed by recess at 12:15-12:40.

We have a vending machine that the jr. & sr. high students may use for lunchtime drinks if they wish. Along with soda, this machine has a healthier selection of drinks, including water, Gatorade, and lemonade.

Milk cards are $7.00 for 20 milks or juice.

Intermediate & Advance Orchestra Concert

The LCS Orchestra will join the Kirksville Community String Orchestra for their holiday concert on Thursday, December 4, at 7:00 p.m. Life Church will host the concert here in our sanctuary. There will be one dress rehearsal on Tuesday, December 2, from 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Dress for the concert is very nice holiday wear.

This is going to be a wonderful and joyous evening of music. We invite you to come and participate. A reception will immediately follow the concert. If you would like further details about the evening, please contact Sandy Floyd.

LCS Advanced Band

The LCS advanced band has been invited to participate in the Life Church worship service this coming Sunday, November 9. The students will have a special rehearsal Thursday, November 6, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. The rehearsal will be held in the sanctuary. For Sunday morning, the students will need to arrive at church at 7:45 a.m. to tune and warm-up. Dress in very nice slacks, shirt, dress shoes. Please no tennis shoes or jeans. Picture Retake Day

If you want to have your child’s picture retaken Life Touch will be here on Wednesday, November 12 to retake any pictures needed. Please return your pictures to the office by Friday, November 7. If no pictures are returned to the office by November 7th we will cancel retake day.

Cold Weather Dress

Please make sure that you are sending your children to school dressed in coats, gloves, and hats on cold days. Also, please have students wear sweatpants for P.E. Since we do transport them back and forth to different buildings for P.E., they need to be dressed warmly. They may wear shorts under their sweats if they wish.

Special Lunch This Friday

Friday, October 31, we will be having a special lunch with a fun time of activities and treats for the children. And just to add a little fun to the day all students and teachers may wear jeans and their favorite hat.

Time to set your clocks back one hour this Saturday night, November 1st.

We have had a successful 1st quarter. God has been very good to us! To go over students’ progress for this quarter, we have scheduled parent/teacher conferences to give out report cards and talk with all parents. On Thursday, November 6, we will dismiss school early at 1:15 p.m. You should have already received an appointment for your child. If you did not, please call the office.

All-School Field Trip Canceled

The Jackson Country Connections called and because of so much rain it is too muddy to go to the corn maze tomorrow, Friday, October 24. So we will have some fun activities and snacks in-house as well as chapel time tomorrow. Students in all grades, as well as teachers may wear jeans for this special time.

Next Friday Mrs. Golden and Mrs. Miller’s classes are preparing a special lunch for the school. We would like to keep the $3.00 you sent for your child to go to the corn maze and use it to cover the cost of lunch as well as a bag of treats for the students that day. We will have a special time of fun and activities as well. If you have any questions or concerns please call the office at 665-2323.

Special Guests

October 3rd special guests will visit us at LCS. Some of the Jr. High and High School students from Covenant Harvest Church School in Pittsburg, Kansas will be here for chapel that afternoon. Then they will join us for a special Torch Twelve Six youth meeting here at the church that night at 7:00 p.m.

After Torch, the Pittsburg youth will spend the night in host homes. They will return to Pittsburg on Saturday.

We are so excited to have this time with these young people. God is truly joining our hearts with people in His Kingdom from near and far. How blessed we are to have friends and family who love God and are seeking Him with us!

Traffic Alert!!!

Dear Parents,

For the after-school pick-up, if you need to come into the building, please park in one of the parking spaces to come into the building. Please do not leave your car in line and come into the building from there. This causes a traffic jam and is unsafe for our children. Once you are in the building, if you have other things to take care of before you leave with your children, please have your children stay in the auditorium until you are ready to leave. This will alleviate some confusion and congestion in the foyer after school and help us make sure all children are supervised and taken care of. Thank you for your help and support in this matter.

Congratulations are in order!

Gemma Ciesemier is officially a U.S. Citizen! We are so blessed to have Gemma and her family in our lives. This year Gemma is teaching Spanish to the 11th & 12th graders. We appreciate all the hard work she does in order to do this, and we are glad for the opportunity it provides to have her with us during the day. We thank God for her life and for her new citizenship!
